Capitol Visitor Center
The thousands of visitors who pass through the doors of the Capitol Visitor Center each day have the opportunity to admire the superb creations of the Beaubois team. The firm is very proud to have produced and installed most of the architectural woodwork for this prestigious project.
The Beaubois seal can be found in the lobbies, theatres, meeting rooms, 600-seat food court, washrooms and the vast auditorium which takes up a quarter of the new area.
Using cherry and sapele pommele, Beaubois created furniture and architectural woodwork pieces that demanded great precision. The elaborate design, the juxtaposition of stone and wood and the production of spectacular items such as the 18.2-metre high wall panels made this complex task even more exhilarating!
The biggest project at the Capitol in 200 years The Capitol Visitor Center is an extension of the historic building whose cornerstone was laid by George Washington on September 18, 1793.
Located entirely underground, the centre has three levels, a total of 53,800 square metres, which equals 75% of the Capitol itself. Decorative paving stone tops the roof.
The thousands of visitors no longer have to wait patiently outside the Capitol. They are invited to visit an exhibition of historic articles and documents, eat, shop for souvenirs and attend presentations that add an even more interesting dimension to their visit.
The Capitol being one of the world's most famous symbols of democracy, the Capitol Visitor Center represents an exceptional "vitrine" for Beaubois.
