The 330 Jay Street, another giant of American justice
Beaubois made simultaneous appearances in the United States' two largest courthouses, the Bronx County Hall of Justice and the 330 Jay Street Courthouse in New York.
Located in the heart of Brooklyn, the 330 Jay Street consists of 32 stories and has 1.1 million square feet of space. The 42 proceedings rooms of the State Supreme Court and the numerous judges' chambers attached to them were raised to new heights of elegance by Beaubois. Wall panels, built-in furnishings, architectural woodwork, in short, all the decorative wood appointments are of figured anigre, an exotic African wood light-coloured with a slight rosy blush.
Unusually, all the furnishings and architectural elements had to be ready and available before installation began. The complete project took 80,000 factory person hours and employed the talents of 150 workers.
With close to 6,000 court users a day entering the State Supreme Court and Family Court alone, the Beaubois team's fine work has wide public exposure.
Chief Administrative Judge Jonathan Lippman said, "The new Jay Street courthouse will provide the public and the justice community of Brooklyn the decent court facilities they have needed for so long and will be a model for courthouses around the state, as well as around the country". More than US$600 was invested in this huge project.
In 1998, Beaubois was involved in the construction of the new Courthouse in Islip, an 11-storey building housing 25 courtrooms.
Three demanding projects but Beaubois was equal to them all!
