Nemours Children's Hospital

Taking a unique approach - Nemours Children's Hospital and Beaubois

It is not surprising that Beaubois, famous for its unique approach to architectural woodwork, should be engaged by an establishment with a similar philosophy when it comes to health care.

This top-level institution is concerned with the health of the whole child, whether physical or psychological. It's unconventional "equipment" like gardens at ground level and on the terraces, nature walks, a centre for pet facilitated psychotherapy and fountains create an environment that encourages both physical and psychological healing.

Beaubois carries out its projects with care, making sure that no detail is overlooked in its drawings and on the premises so that everything it does blends perfectly with its environment and thereby adds to creating a serene atmosphere.

This 95-bed, 6-story hospital centre will be built on 60 acres of land that will be adapted to its needs. The building, the total value of which will exceed $400M, will house a children's clinic, emergency department, diagnostic and ambulatory services department, as well as education and research centers.

Beaubois will produce and install the built-in furniture for all the rooms and washrooms. It will also provide nursing stations, reception counters, curved benches in the waiting rooms, sleeper walls with integrated television screens, wall paneling in the elevator lobbies, curved counters clad in solid surface and laboratory furnishings, including stainless steel items. In addition, the firm will integrate decorative glass panels into certain pieces of furniture, including the reception desk.

Having so many elements to produce within a tight schedule brings its own challenges and will demand rigorous coordination with the establishment's other specialized contractors and equipment suppliers.

The Nemours Children's Hospital will offer integrated care services, with a sole focus on the needs of the children and their families. To quote Nemours' CEO, Dr. David Bailey, "We are offering a depth of services that currently doesn't exist." He stressed the fact that there are still too many families who have to travel to get the pediatric health care they need.

Beaubois is pleased to be involved in such a project and hopes that the children will find that this is the ideal place to help them get well.

One of the largest health systems in the United States, Nemours also operates a children's hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, and children's clinics in Jacksonville, Orlando and Pensacola in Florida as well as in Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Voorhees (N.J.) and Bryn Mawr (PA). Over 4,400 people devote themselves to children in their facilities.
