Shands Cancer Hospital at the University of Florida

A second hospital in Florida: New Shands Cancer Hospital

While one Beaubois team is working at the All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, another is on the site of the New Shands Cancer Hospital in Gainesville.

An integral part of the University of Florida, this 46,500 m² facility, an investment of US$388M, will be equipped with the latest technology, something that the university's administration hopes will draw top doctors and researchers.

Beaubois will produce and install the cupboards, cabinets and sills in all 192 rooms of this 9-floor establishment. The firm will also craft and install the superb staircase in the main entrance and the wall panels in the numerous separate elevator lobbies for patients, staff, visitors and goods. The mandate will last a year, with completion in spring 2009.

The New Shands Cancer Hospital will also have a dozen operating theatres and a critical care unit with trauma and emergency departments.

The complex, designed to create a welcoming, family atmosphere, will also have a cancer documentation centre for patients and a conference centre and spaces where the public can attend workshops and informative exhibitions on cancer prevention and treatment. The magnificent garden will provide an ideal spot in which to relax.

This hospital is being built in response to the skyrocketing demand for cancer-related services. According to the American Cancer Society, Florida reported more than 99,000 new cancer cases in 2006, the second highest rate in the United States after California.

Beaubois is proud to be part of these two projects, the New Shands Cancer Hospital and the All Children's Hospital of St. Petersburg, key elements in the health of Floridians today and tomorrow.
