Drexel University - Lebow College of Business

Philadelphia, PA A new building for Drexel University's LeBow College of Business

The LeBow College of Business is now offering its academic programs in a 12-story tower located in the heart of Drexel University's Campus.

This 177 700-square-foot building is constructed around a vast six-story atrium that showcases the talent of the team from Ébénisterie Beaubois, which specializes in high-end architectural millwork.

The wall panels and the window frames of the offices overlooking the atrium and enhancing the six stories of the outer area were crafted by Beaubois. Installing them required precise coordination with all the trades involved in constructing the building.

The atrium's wall panels surrounding the staircase leading to the classrooms are also among Beaubois' works. Four of the rooms also benefitted from the work of the firm's talented people who fabricated the acoustic and wall panels and produced the counters, cupboards and vanities. The same team also provided the mouldings and chair rails that encircle a 100-seat auditorium in the basement of the tower as well as other wall and acoustic panels that enhance the top floor where the meeting and conference rooms are located.

The choice of white oak came with its own set of challenges because maintaining a uniform colour required a meticulous placing of the veneer and hardwood inserted in the acoustic panels.

Beaubois completed its work in two stages, finishing the floors up to the sixth story in time for the start of classes in October 2013 and then delivering the other stories in December of that same year.

The ultra-modern building meets the environmental expectations of the university's administration as it complies with the requirements of the Global Green sustainable development management system. For example, the building has a green roof and exterior light collectors were installed to control the artificial light.

This $92M project contains five centers: the Center for Corporate Governance, the Dana and David Dornsife Office for Experiential Learning, the Center for Corporate Reputation Management, the Strategic Leadership and Baiada Institute for Entrepreneurship.

Beaubois is proud to have been part of the construction of the LeBow College of Business, which will set the standard for the institution's next generation of buildings.

This project was made possible thanks to a $45M donation from Bennett S. LeBow. This is the largest monetary contribution the University had received since its founding in 1891. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania provided the rest of the funding.
