New Long Beach Court Building

Beaubois' experience is put to good use in the construction of the new courthouse in Long Beach, CA

With numerous complex projects to its credit, Beaubois was a partner of choice for the architectural woodwork in the Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse, the design of which was selected through a competition won by AECOM.

Beaubois worked on producing the plans with the architects, using its computer-assisted 3D design program to analyze every detail of the project's elements. The firm used a guaranteed measurement system that is so efficient that its shop drawings were used for building the courtrooms. These preconstruction steps streamline production and speed up installation, thereby reducing the time scheduled for them. And, in a project, time is always of the essence.

In addition, its teams are simultaneously fitting up two courtrooms a week and will continue at this pace until all 31 of the building's rooms are finished. Beaubois prefabricated all the furniture and architectural woodwork elements for each room, including the judges' benches, bailiff boxes, witness stands, decorative grills, wall panels and ceiling panels. The doors and frames were also crafted in its plant.

Over 100 feet long, the ground-floor transaction counter is one of the project's most spectacular pieces. Numerous other transaction counters, optical reader stations and information counters produced by Beaubois are covered in the solid surface whose formula was perfected by the company based on a product selected by the architects.

All crafted from white oak, Beaubois' productions also incorporate countless stainless steel, glass and stone elements, not to mention the required audio/video devices, all of which increase the complexity of a mandate where the acceptable margin of error is always zero.

A high-security building, the courthouse will have inmate transfer facilities, detention facilities, a parking structure strictly reserved for judges and another with 900 spaces for employees, users and visitors. The Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse will also include administrative offices, space leased by Los Angeles County and retail space.

The first civic project in California to be delivered in public private partnership mode, this vast courthouse, which extends over two blocks, will change the face of downtown Long Beach and welcome more than 4 000 visitors a day.

After its completion in the summer of 2013, this building will be a splendid showcase for the talents of Beaubois, proud to put its stamp on this prestigious project.
