In fact, its success in this field is such that it now receives a growing number of mandates for projects of this type every year.

The LEED® system, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is the international benchmark for designing, constructing and operating high performance green buildings.

Compliance with LEED® standards translates into the use of design and construction practices that reduce the negative impact of buildings on their occupants and the environment.

Its Objectives:

To improve the building's environmental and economic performance;
To promote the use of proven and innovative practices, standards and technologies;
To increase the well-being of occupants;
To improve the quality of the environment in the whole community.

The LEED® Rating System

The LEED® system was developed by the United States Green Building Council and is the most used building environmental rating system in the world. It is specifically intended for designing, constructing, operating and certifying sustainable buildings throughout the world.

Levels of Certification

LEED® uses a scoring system to evaluate a building's environmental performance. There are four levels of LEED certification:

Certified
Silver
Gold
Platinum

In Canada, the exclusive authority for implementing the LEED® Green Building Rating System is the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC).

LEED® recognizes performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:

sustainable sites
water efficiency
energy and atmosphere
materials and resources *
indoor environmental quality *
